The Transition from Year 9 to Year 10: An Evening of Preparation and Encouragement

Tuesday, 14 February, 2023

As students move from one phase of their education to the next, it is important for them to feel prepared, supported, and ready to take on the new challenges that lie ahead. This is especially true for students transitioning from Year 9 to Year 10, as they move from the comfort of lower school into the more demanding and fast-paced environment of high school.

To help these students make this transition as smoothly as possible, the Year 9 to 10 Transition Evening was held on 9th February 2023 at Wemms. The event aimed to provide a smooth transition for the students moving from Year 9 to Year 10 and to inform them about the changes and challenges that lie ahead.

The evening commenced with a welcome speech from the Principal, Joy, who highlighted the importance of the transition period and encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them in Year 10. After the presentations, students and their parents were able to attend a range of subject-specific workshops led by teachers from various departments. These workshops were designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the subjects they will be studying in Year 10 and to answer any questions they may have.

The event also provided an opportunity for students to meet with their subject teachers and discuss their individual strengths, weaknesses and learning goals. This was well received by both students and parents, who appreciated the personal touch and individual attention provided.

The evening concluded with a Q&A based coffee session, where students and parents were able to ask any remaining questions they had about the Year 10 curriculum and the transition process.

Overall, the Year 9 to 10 Transition Evening was a great success and received positive feedback from both students and parents. It provided students with a clear understanding of what to expect in Year 10 and gave them a chance to ask questions and prepare for the transition. The event embedded the strong sense of community amongst students and staff, setting the tone for a successful and productive year ahead.
